Tour Itinerary

Day 1 :

Arrive Kigali, transfer to accommodation in/close Volcanoes NP.

We hope your flight will arrive before 14:00hrs. When you arrive at Kigali Airport, you will go through the routine clearance process before stepping out to meet your Tour Driver-guide. He will greet you and then drive you to Volcanoes National Park. Volcanoes National Park is located in northwest Rwanda and shares borders with Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. You will arrive at your booked accommodation and rest in preparation for the next day’s activity. #Optional (at an additional cost): If you have time and are interested, you could take a Kigali City tour before heading to the Volcanoes.

Day 2 :

Golden monkey trekking Volcanoes NP. Transfer to Bwindi, Uganda.

Golden monkey trekking takes place in Volcanoes National Park at the same time as gorilla trekking (7:00 a.m.). These rare monkey species are also listed as endangered, and Volcanoes National Park has habituated groups that visitors can trek. The exercise begins with a briefing from the park ranger. Following that, you will trek the golden monkeys through the volcanoes NP rainforest. Return to your lodging for some rest and lunch. After lunch, proceed to the Cyanika Border Post. Our Uganda-based Professional Tour Driver-guide will meet you at Cyanika and take over from his Rwanda-based colleague. You will cross the border into Uganda and spend the night near Bwindi National Park where you will undertake the gorilla trekking the next day.

Day 3 :

Gorilla trekking Bwindi Forest-Rushaga sector. Return and take rest.

After breakfast, proceed to the rangers’ post. You will be briefed (by a ranger-guide) on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Following that, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary to begin your adventure and encounter. This rain forest is breathtakingly beautiful! The area has a dramatic steeply forested landscape and is extremely dense, but it is crisscrossed by numerous animal trails that allow tourists access. The time and terrain vary according to the movements of these great primates. You will be allowed an hour in the presence of a gorilla group once you have located one. Spending time observing these gentle but endangered giants is an unforgettable experience. After a long day, return to your accommodation and relax.

Day 4 :

Game viewing Ishasha for tree-climbing lions. Connect north Queen

Be up early, have breakfast and embark on a transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth which is famous for its tree-climbing lion population. Once there, go on a game drive to look for this rare species of lion. If you get a chance to see the lions up in the tree, it’s a breathtaking and unforgettable sight. Exit at Ishasha (south) and proceed to the booked accommodation in the north sector. Check in and relax. #Optional: If you’re interested, you could go on a late afternoon/evening game drive/safari in the Kasenyi plains.

Day 5 :

Game drive/safari. Afternoon boat trip/safari – Kazinga Channel.

Be up early and have your breakfast. Proceed for a morning game drive/safari in the Kasenyi plains and be on the look for Cape buffalos, herds of elephants plus lions, leopards (though hard to spot) among others. Return to the accommodation for some rest time and lunch. After lunch, you will go for a 2-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel that connects Lakes George and Edward. During the trip, the sight of wildlife including giant hippos, elephants and crocodiles among others will fascinate you. You will also see many varieties of birds at the water shores. #Optional: If interested, you may go for a brief late afternoon-to-evening game viewing and then, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 :

Chimp tracking Kalinzu Forest Reserve. Transfer to Lake Mburo NP.

Be up early, have breakfast and drive out to the nearby Kalinzu Forest Reserve. The Forest is home to habituated chimps as well as other primates such as baboons, monkeys, and bird species. You’ll spend the first part of the day tracking chimps here. After that, travel to Lake Mburo National Park via Mbarara. When you arrive in Mburo, you can either check in and relax or check in and go on a game drive/safari. #Optional (extra cost): If you want to see nocturnal wildlife, you can take a night game drive.

Day 7 :

Walking safari. Travel to Entebbe to catch flight out (17:00hrs or later).

Enjoy your early breakfast before departing for the Mburo morning park (bush) walk with an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger-guide. On this early morning guided walk, you will have the opportunity to see (up close and personal) Zebras, Giraffes and Eland, Topi and other antelope, Cape buffaloes, and other animals.

Take the Trail to the top of the hills for a panoramic view of Lake Mburo and beyond. Thereafter, return to the accommodation for checkout and then hit the road to Entebbe airport to catch flight (1700hrs or later).
